BROOKLYN- The 2015 Junior Varsity football season ended Thursday night when the Eagles fell to the Wildcats of Onsted, 24-14. Columbia closed out the season with a 2-6-1 record.
The Golden Eagles struck early in the first period on a Michael Phillips touchdown catch from the right arm of freshmen Khol Partridge. The point after kick by Connor McClear made it 7-0 Columbia Central. Onsted then responded with a touchdown of their own and a two point conversion to grab an 8-7 lead. It stayed that way until the final play of the second quarter when Onsted found the endzone to take a 14-7 lead and with a two point conversion, a 16-7 lead at the half.
Onsted made it 24-7 in the third before the Golden Eagles fought back. Freshman receiver Michael Phillips, on a well run slant route, snagged a Partridge pass and broke several tackles on his way to the endzone. The point after kick by McClear made it 24-14 with nearly 10 minutes left to play.
A big Columbia defensive stop put the ball back into the hands of the Golden Eagle offense and they responded with an eight play drive down to the Onsted nine yard behind several big runs by freshman Carson Daniels. But four plays later, the Eagles still trailed as the Wildcat defense stiffened and kept the Eagles out of the endzone. Two first downs later, the clock ran out and Onsted left with the 24-14 win.
