BROOKLYN- So close……so close. So close to blowing the Bulldogs of Southfield Academy off the field early…….so close to going up by two touchdowns at the half……..so close to stopping the ‘Dogs on the game winning touchdown drive…..so close to earning the first football playoff win in school history.
In gut-wrenching fashion, the 2016 football season came to an end on Friday as the Southfield Bradford Academy Bulldogs overcame a 19 point first quarter deficit to pull out a thrilling, 38-33 playoff win.
The final heartbreak came on a fourth and goal on the Columbia Central four yard line with just :15 seconds remaining in the game and Columbia leading, 33-30. After timeouts from both teams, Bradford quarterback Dajon Wofford found a sliver of daylight and with second effort, muscled his way into the endzone and the win.
Senior running back Micah Raby closed out his brilliant football career at Columbia Central with a 238 yard rushing performance and five touchdowns His 20 carries included touchdown runs of 71 and 27 yards in the losing effort.
The defense was spearheaded by sophomores Gehrig Elliott and Carson Daniels who recorded 13 tackles each.
The Golden Eagles finish the year at 7-3. The Bulldogs of Southfield now travel to Ida to take on the Bluestreaks.
